I sat down with the president over the last weekend, before he actually submitted his resignation. What follows is the transcript from the interview. One thing that struck me as poignant was the somewhat somber feeling I got. This man, this President was walking away from something that was immensely important to him. Having occupied the office for several years, he like anyone in a position of power made some mistakes and seemed almost relieved to be able to finally speak out about them. He also had some major triumphs and victory’s, but as is usual in politics those are usually drowned out by the criticisms.
Perhaps the most important part of the interview came when he admitted that he had forgotten what it was like to be just a normal regular simmer. Something that we all start off as. It belies the ultimate problem facing UCIP today, after years spent simming we seem to forget what drew us to the organization in the first place. We forget that its about having fun, being creative and meeting new people. All too often it seems, we get caught up in the drama and the politics and internal strife and loose focus on what really matters.
